Jewellery Care

How to keep your jewellery looking its very best!

House of Frost jewellery is made to be worn and loved. Of course this means that it will, over time, require some maintenance to keep it looking like new. We recommend you care for your jewellery at home and then take it to your trusted local jeweller once a year for a professional clean.

Some things to Remember:

  • Precious metals are not indestructible, they experience wear and tear just like other metals. To keep your jewellery looking good and lasting longer, take it off when doing jobs that could damage them i.e. concreting and gardening for example.

  • Sterling Silver will oxidise, it’s just part of the joy of owning silver jewellery. To keep it from oxidising faster remove your silver jewellery when cleaning with bleach and ammonia products and when in swimming pools or spas. However, if you do notice your silver jewellery is starting to go black (oxidising/tarnishing) it is easily removed by your trusted jeweller and your silver jewellery will look as good as new.

At Home:

The best thing you can do for your precious metal jewellery at home is to keep it clean. To do this invest in a soft toothbrush and use warm soapy (a washing powder type soap is best) water. Gently clean the piece then dry it with a soft cloth or tissue. For silver jewellery the addition of a silver jewellery polishing cloth (this is one impregnated with jeweller’s rouge) will help keep oxidisation at bay. Rub the cloth gently over the surface of the jewellery item to remove any oxidisation.

At the Jewellers:

We recommend that annually you pop your jewellery into your favourite local jewellers to get it professionally cleaned. We know that you will love the result of your jewellery receiving a good polish. A polish will remove any scratches and oxidisation from your jewellery piece restoring it to like new condition. If you own any white gold jewellery, then your jeweller will also be able to replace the rhodium plating on those pieces for you too if you wish.
